WIP Wednesday: Sleeves.

Standard

sleeves WIP 30.03.11

While Perth is experiencing its sunniest summer to date, I’m dreaming of autumn: layers, knee-high socks, pie, boots, jeans, rugging up, and of course, cardigans.

So I started this cardigan: a warm yellow colour, cozy cables running up each sleeve, and eventual hopes of a cushy shawl collar.

Two sleeves down.

Nami pattern release!

Nami

Nami (pronounced NAH-mee) is named after the Japanese word for ‘wave’. This seamless, bottom-up, cap-sleeved tee with simultaneous set-in sleeves features a deep ribbed hem, simple lace body, V-neck and single crochet edging for a clean finish.

Stitches are cast on at the hem and worked in the round to the underarm, then sleeve stitches are cast on provisionally and joined to front and back stitches for working in the round. Stitches are decreased away as for set-in sleeves, and after shoulder shaping is complete the front and back shoulder stitches are grafted together. Finally single crochet edging is worked to finish the neckline and sleeves.

The lace pattern is worked in the round over a multiple of 9 stitches plus 2, over an easy 2 row repeat. Charts and written instructions are provided.

Available to download from ravelry for $5.00 USD.

Special thanks to Sara Hadley Austin for her wonderful tech editing.

Crochet a Rainbow

Standard

Sarah London has organised Crochet a Rainbow, a granny square drive for the benefit of flood victims in Queensland and Victoria.

From Sarah’s blog:

As many of you worldwide already know, Australia has recently been experiencing floods of huge proportions. The devastation is beyond words, lives have been lost, thousands of homes have been inundated with water, many families have lost all of their belongings.

I’d like to inject some sunshine and colour into the lives of those affected by the floods as they begin to re-build and start over.

I’m asking for donations of granny squares which I will then make up into blankets to be distributed to those affected throughout Queensland and Victoria, providing comfort and colour and as a reminder that there is always a rainbow after a storm.

Donated granny squares are to consist of 5 rounds each, this will make it easier for joining.
Granny squares may be made from either acrylic yarn or pure wool.
Raid your stash, select all colours of the rainbow and get hooking!
Feel free to make as many granny squares as you’d like, the more the merrier.
To sign up please email sarahlondontextiles@gmail.com with ‘Crochet a Rainbow’ in the subject line. Please include your name, country and blog if you have one. Names, along with a link to your blog will be added to the participants page as sign ups progress.
The address to send your granny squares will be emailed to you.

  • WIP Wednesday: The Stockinette Mitre.

    mitre

In the wake of the recent floods in Queensland and Victoria, Australia; the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand; and most recently the quake and tsunami in Japan, I–and I’m sure many others–have felt pretty overwhelmed and powerless to help. Of course monetary donations are what’s needed, and that was my initial response, but it seems so abstract when the stories we hear and images we see are so immediate. I felt the need to do something with my hands.

This mitred square is the beginning of a project I hope to donate to K4C’s May Charity of the Month, the Footpath Library in Sydney, who have expressed a need for baby blankets for women escaping domestic violence. It’s small, I know, but it’s a start.
